HP Z1 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Z1 Workstation turns off arbitrarily. No shut down, suddenly the power is gone. No matter whether Linux or Windows, also in the BIOS menu it can happen. Sometimes it happens several times in succession, then again several days not. A temperature problem? The graphics card already exchanged: No effect. In the BIOS menu the fan speed increased: No improvement. HWMonitor does not show any conspicuous temperatures, but it does not show any temperatures concerning the motherboard.

How to find the error? A well-known phenomenon?

New drivers for Windows are already tested, but the problem also occurs in Linux, also without any OS (in the BIOS setup) ... no solution.

BIOS already updated ... no solution.

Hi BGarbe,

Greeting for the day!!

OK, now please do the complete UEFI Diagnostic test by pressing f2 and check any hardware failure in the unit,

If any failure, note down failure code and while performing UEFI also system restarting means suspecting issue may in SMPS/ Motherboard.

please contact HP or log a case through web portal.

UEFI Diagnostic test succesfull executed.

One hour after testing the Workstation makes "plopp" and power is off 🙂

It's no shutdown, it's like switching the power off.

Hello!

We have the same issue on 9 out of 10 of our Z1's. After countless tests, steps and tech visits and after our warranty expired this issue persists.

BGarbe, any luck with your workstation?

Hello Maria, thanks for this interesting contribution. Unfortunately, I have no solution. But since the end of the summer I have had no further incident. I believe that a component is measuring falsely a too high temperature and the power supply is then switched off. If I could buy a new (cheap) power supply, this would be my last test.

Too bad the Z1 workstation is actually a nice device.
