HP Z2 Tower G9 Workstation Desktop PC (4Y0H6AV)

In the past two months the HP Z2 G9 workstation fan has come on suddenly running at 100%.  The workstation was not responding to the keyboard, so the only way to interrupt the fan situation was to force a power off shutdown.


I identified a common link to both incidents upon reboot of the workstation. Upon reboot the system reported the continuation of a BIOS upgrade step 2 of 2.  After the BIOS upgrade finished, Windows restarted as normal, and the Fan ran at Low to no speed.


I typical use the workstation for high CPU and Memory Video processing.  During these high usage conditions, the fan rarely comes on or runs at a very low speed.

 

Here's the background information on the BIOS upgrade that I believe trigger the High Fan Speed Condition:
HP Z2G9 Workstation System BIOS - Installed on: 6/2/2024
This package contains the System BIOS image and flash utilities for the HP Z2 G9 Workstations. These utilities can be used to restore or update the System BIOS. System BIOS is independent of the Operating System.
