Is there a way to configure the POST (Power On Self Test)? I have removed the side chassis fan since it is incompatible with my graphics card. POST trips an error because of the fan removal. I want to suppress that error as it halts the boot until a key press.  I can't see an appropriate setting in the BIOS? Thanks for any pointers!

since i don't own this model,  i can only state that removing a cooling fan and then installing a heat generating video card is not a very good idea as you have greatly increased the chance of overheating the entire system

do you think HP installed the fan because they were bored and thought it looked cool or had a few million fans that they wanted to get rid of?

HP installed the fan because they felt it was necessary for proper operation of the system you are running the risk of damaging the entire system or possibly causing random heat related issues while there are ways to suppress the error the best way is to have the fan attached in it's correct location

Stansley,

The "fan not detected" error is difficult to circumvent and anyway, the persistence of that message mean that extreme loads that can occur in workstations make the fan to be considered essential system protection. Workstations typically are designed as a balance of adequate air flow but remain quiet running so there is no design residual cooling capacity.  The GPU is a larger internal heat source than the  CPU so a large, powerful GPU is possibly the worst reason to reduce case air flow.

In my view, the best solution would be to  consider a way that the original fan could be plugged into the connector- thereby eliminating the error message, and mounted so as to direct air as close as possible to the original direction.

The office z620 is overclocked to 4.4GHz and even with a z420 AIO liquid cooler, there is still consideration of making a bracket to mount a SATA power connection variable speed fan in a pull configuration to add to the air flow of the push fan of the AIO cooler during 100% utilization CPU rendering . A good 3D printing project or glued up sheet acrylic.

While I appreciate you taking time to respond, since you don't own this model you won't likely realize that the fan in question is a small 80mm fan that is not connected to a vent in the case, so just pushes air around the case.

The  GTX 1060 GPU I've installed already has two larger fans on it, which together with the two main chassis fans that do vent the case, I'm sure provides sufficient internal movement and air throughput for the non-Xeon non-overclocked i7-10700 in this particular unit.

Since I'm familiar with previous PCs, I'm completely confident that this internal fan is optional in my setup.

Stansley,

The reply was a response to the original query, intended to devise a way to eliminate the "fan not detected" error and having to press the F key on every start, Plugging the original fan into the connector should be an answer.

If that error message has been eliminated in some other way, please let us know; I've never seen a solution. I'm not knowledgeable about the details of how PWM works, but it may or may not be at the BIOS level.  If a system originally had a low core count /low clock speed CPU with no front fan and is later upgraded to a high core / high clock speed CPU- a higher power and hotter running processor, the system will produce the the "fan not detected" error.
