Bios (latest) 786H3 v01.22 - 02/11/2016

NVME SSD ADAPTOR card - in PCIE slot 3 (mini pcie slot) - PCIE x4 (1)

SSD: Samsung 870 EVO Plus

speed very slow (200MBs read, 100mbs write)

How can we fix?

WHat is correct BIOS settings for PCI devices? --- Rom Enable/Disable ? & Any other settings?

Is it the controller fault?

I saw here on HP Z400 they got speeds 1000mbs

you want to know why your workstation with a PCI-E 2.0 /1.0bus speed

isn't able to xfer data as as fast as a z400 which has a PCI-E 2.0 bus that's twice as fast in data xfer?

your answer is in the question.................................. pci-2 2.0 is only able to xfer data half as fast as pci-e 3.0, and pci-e 1.0 is again half the speed of pci-e 2.0

the z200 only has one pci-e 2.0 slot, all other slots are 1.0,

the z400 has several pci-e 2.0 slots which is why the data xfer is faster than 1.0

the z420 has several pci-e 3.0 slots which is why the data xfer is faster than 2.0

there's nothing to fix on your z200  hardware wise, you want faster I/O replace the system get a z230/z240

The drive i used should be around 2000mb read.

The slot i used is pcie 1 yes but x4 lanes.

So i think should be higher speed?

Because your PC is slower than the other newer ones.  Nothing that money can't fix...

Please read my question again as your answer is incorrect.

The HP Z200 has a PCIE (1) x4 slot.

PCIE (1) is capable of approx 250MB/s per lane x4 = 1000MB/s

Samsung EVO 870 Plus pcie is capable over 2000MB/s

Transfer speed benchmark in Windows shows 200MB/s.

It perform slower than the SATA SSD which is the operating system drive.

This is not logical.

What can we check in the BIOS settings?

What should the PCI slot settings be in Bios?

neither my reply or "SDH'S  reply is wrong, you really don't understand what you have been told your assumption on speeds pci-e 1.0/1.1 is .250 MB/s  (that's point 250 not two hundred and fifty) 4 lanes of .250 = 1000MB/s and real world after overhead  is around 700MB/s max, and not all devices or hardware will allow this speed

i recommend you spend some time reading up on PCI-e xfer speeds and pci-e link speeds across revisions and then do the same for chipsets/cpu's

you are trying to apply a  pci-e  3.0 bus using a x4  link's Max theoretical SSD speed on a semi current motherboard chipset (and newer)

and then being surprised when your older chipset/cpu with a pci-e x1 link using pci-e 1.0 bus is unable to replicate the performance of the newer hardware

Hi Groves thanks for your reply but I think you made a mistake.

Please refer to the Wikipedia link you shared with me

The table shows PCIE 1.0 is 0.250 GB/s not MB/s

0.25GB = 250MB/s.

Please have another look and you will realise there is something wrong here

the only other thing to check is bios settings, reset to defaults, HD setting should be RAID+AHCI and not IDE
