HP Z230 + AMD RX 470 GPU

HP Recommended
HP Z230
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Z230, product number WM578ET#ABU

I want to install an AMD RX 470 GPU in my workstation. It appears to be compatible in terms of power and space requirements, but I'd like to know if it will be supported by the motherboard.

CPU-Z shows the motherboard being a HP Model 1905. The BIOS is at the newest version, L51 v01.61 from 07/04/2018. Is this compatible with my intended GPU?

Thanks in advance for your help.

your amd card fraws about 150 watts, and uses a 6pin gpu pwr connector

the HP quickspecs for your model shows a ® Quadro® M4000 as the high end optional card which nvida shows as 150 watt draw

HOWEVER HP ALSO NOTES THAT YOUR SYSTEM MUST HAVE THE OPTIONAL  400 WATT SUPPLY the stock 320 is not approved, and will cause issues

so do you have the 400 watt supply? if not then your AMD card is a no go

other than the power supply issue there are no other issues with the planed upgrade
