After Windows 10 Spring 2018 Update, I obtained a notification that TPM (Trusted Platform Module) firmware should also be updated on my HP Z230 workstation. Thus, I downloaded and unpacked the HP TPM update application. But, when I started it, I obtained a message that the update was not possible since TPM was not yet enabled in Windows. After some browsing, I found that this should be done via Microsoft TPM console (tpm.msc). There, I selected "Prepare TPM" and agreed to restarting. Afterward, the computer was restarted but with a black screen and dead keyboard - without even possibility to access BIOS via F10. I tried by replacing my USB keyboard with PS2, but without success. Any clue?

the page you linked to is for a TPM 1.2 update (not 2.0) and for your model the file required is SP82407 which updates existing TPM's to v4.34.1011.0 (again, we need to know which file you downloaded, don't guess if you don't know say so)
where do you live? several regions/countries do not allow TPM, as such it is not enabled on the motherboard.
next please describe just what actions you took while trying to install (please don't say i ran the program and rebooted)
we need to know what the name of the file you ran if you can recall it (again if not say so)
then what the "EXACT ERROR MESG (if any) was
is this the page you read info about the Microsoft TPM console:
you can try resetting the z230 cmos, and see if that allows access to the bios. (see page 100)
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04658261
windows may be corupted if you did try updating from the Microsoft TPM console and may need a reinstall
the proper way to update is to enter the bios, make sure TPM is enabled then download the correct SP, extract it then go into the extracted folder and READ the HOW TO UPDATE file, usually you copy the extracted files onto a bootable usb key and boot with said key and then execute the update.bat (or.cmd) file

we don't read minds he on this forum, so unless you care to provide the TMP firmware revision you have installed and the name of the file you downloaded and where from , your not rgoing to receive much help
you will note, that the offical HP page on TPM 2.0 updates does not list the z230 as the system was past end of life when windows 10 came out. as such hp has, and will not make a 1.2 to 2.0 TPM update
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05381064
i suspect you have bricked the system, and now need to replace the motherboard unless you can find a shop willing to burn a new bios which also includes the MAC address and system serial number (this is not a trival task)

I downloaded the installation app from https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c05792935 page, which enlists Z230 as one of workstations for which the firmware update is available. However, the app did not make any change to firmware since it complained about disabled TPM and the only option I had was to cancel it. The system stalled after a change made by Windows before reset and I have no idea what was it.

Yes, the file I downloaded was SP82407.exe and, as far as I can remember, my computer had TPM v.4.32.
I did not know about possible export restrictions. I live in Serbia, so it is perhaps that I indeed cannot enable TPM. I tried browsing around, but could not find any specific information on it.
My sequence of conducted steps was really very simple. First, I ran the app IFXTPMUpdate_TPM12_v0434.exe obtained after unpacking SP82407. The installer displayed actual TPM version, new version to expect after update, and after checking platform details it displayed the "TPM is not enabled" error and further offered an option to cancel the installation. After cancelling, it smoothly closed without making a request to restart the computer.
My second step was to start tpm.msc console. It did not display any error message, and the first offered option in its detail pane was to "prepare TPM". I chose this option and the console requested to restart the system stating that I will get further options after reboot. Afterward, it shut down the system without displaying any further messages and the computer never rebooted.
Now, it seems that my only option is to reset CMOS and I will try to do it.
