HP Z620. I have quantity 3 2TB SATA Spindle Drives installed in the three bays and quantity 1 250GB SATA SSD Drive.
The OS is installed on the SSD drive and I want the other three drives for storage.
     The BIOS recognizes Qty 1 2TB SATA Drive and the 250GB SSD Drive

     Windows recognizes Qty 1 2TB SATA Drive and the 250GB SSD Drive

     The RAID Configuration Utility recognizes Qty 2 (of the 3) 2TB SATA Drives only.

     I've tried all the different Storage Options settings, but no changes.

     I've tried swapping the positions of the drives, but no changes.

     I've tested all the drives and they are all good.

Why isn't the BIOS and Windows seeing all 4 drives, and why isn't the RAID Config Utility seeing the 3 2TB drives?

several issues

1. drive not seen in bios

is the drive a SATA or SAS drive? the z620 only supports SATA unless a add in sas card is installed

swap drive with one that is seen by the bios on that sata port if it does not show check sata cable and power cable

if still not working..............replace drive

 

for drives that do show in bios, insure the z620 bios is set for Raid+AHCI, then go to the raid array remove/delete the existing array and create a new one during initial array creation do the desired 3 drives show in the selection menu if not determine why before proceeding further

 

if trying to boot from a array make sure the intel RSTe driver from the HP z620 website is installed during the os install

read via google how to install driver during windows setup

 

if using a SSD for a boot device you must have a SATA based SSD, the z620 is unable to boot from any current consumer NVME SSD (this has been discussed so many times here,)

To answer your questions and add clarity:

  1. All 4 drives are SATA (the three bays have SATA spindle drives + 1 SATA SSD drive)
  2. BIOS is set to RAID-AHCI
  3. There currently is no RAID Array. Each drive is independent.
  4. The BIOS sees the SATA SSD drive and the OS is loaded on that SSD drive. Of the three SATA spindle drives, the BIOS only sees one of them. If I move the drives around it still only sees the one drive in slot 1 (I can tell because the S/N changes and matches the applicable drive).

Interesting note:

  1. Under Device Configuration, it shows SATA0 as the SSD Drive and SATA1 as the first bay Spindle Drive.
  2. Under Boot Order/ UEFI Boot Sources it shows the same as Device Configuration. However, under Boot Order/Legacy Boot Sources it shows all four drives.
  1. While the BIOS only sees the SSD drive and only 1 Spindle drive, the RAID Utility sees 2 of the 3 spindle drives (again I can tell by the S/N).
  2. I have tested all three spindle drives and I know they are good.
  3. I have searched on this forum and Google and cannot find anyone reporting this issue.

I have had my issue posted for two weeks and still no answer! I would have expected with a community of this size that someone would have some suggestions or a solution. Anyone?

For what it's worth....
Through much research, trial and error, I have found what appears to be a solution.
The motherboard has six SATA slots along one side of the board, two SATA slots in the middle of the board, and two SATA slots on the adjoining side of the board. The four SATA drives were plugged into 4 of the 6 SATA slots and the DVD drive was plugged into one of the SATA slots on the side of the board. I moved the SSD SATA drive to the SATA port next to the DVD drive and moved one of the other SATA drives to the SATA port in the middle of the board, leaving the other two SATA drives plugged into the first two of six SATA ports. Having the SATA devices split up 2, 2 and 2 allowed the BIOS to see all the SATA drives.  

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but the processor is a six-core processor and perhaps that is the only way it can work, 2, 2 & 2.
