I have encountered a similar issue with excel files - some are very large, database files linking with other large files.  I am running Windows 7 with 64bit.    Does anyone have a solution.   My machine has larger than normal RAM (more than 30GB so that isn't the issue, or maybe I do need more?

excel doe not handle large spreadsheets with hundreds of macros/cells in use it tends to come to a crawl or simply crash

i recomend you change your database, or at least start using some of the many tricks that people use when working with large excel spread sheets to try to limit the items/cells in use
