HP Z800 RAM Upgrade

HP Recommended
HP Z800
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am trying to do a ram upgrade on my hp z800 from 12GB to 48GB.

In my inventory, I have these 2 types of ram,

help me figure out which one works better?

1. Samsung M391B5273DH0-CK0 M 1325 (4GB 2Rx8 PC3-12800E-11-11-E3)

2. Samsung M391B5773DH0-CK0 M 1218 (2GB 1Rx8 PC3-12800E-11-11-D1)

I have enough to fill all the slots.

or do I need to buy a different kind of ram that works?

first of all you can not mix ram types/capacity

you have 2gb sticks that are "1 rank"

you have 4gb sticks that are "2 rank"

the z800 uses a tripple memory controller, so you have 3 banks of memory each bank has 3 slots for memory

For single processor configurations, configure memory in sets of 3

For dual processor configurations, configure memory in sets of 6

so, i recomend  if you have dual cpu's fill all  banks with 4gb sticks if you have that many

if not buy  at least 4gb modules to fill each slot (24GB) ,  or six 8 gb modules  (48GB) if you can afford it if using dual cpu's

just make sure that you fill all 3 memory banks  with the same type ram (6 banks if dual cpu's)

read this pdf on memory config
