I have a Z820 workstation, upgraded to from one E5 2670 CPU to Dual E5 2670 CPUs with matching memory sticks. The system fan spinning at full speed and a black screen, will not post. Both are v1 CPUs, and the system works fine with only one CPU. Any help would be great; the BIOS was updated and powered down, and the CMOS battery was, but the same issue.

i have to make the assumption that BOTH cpu's are v1 and the same model
if so a black screen is not normal
did you rearrange the installed ram for a dual cpu configuration?
if not, that will be a issue.............each cpu has it's own ram slots
and each cpu must have the exact ram modules installed in the proper slot for both cpu's
please review the memory load order information that is printed on the side cover of your z820
