Brian, is the HP Z Turbo drive the same as a pcie card?

HP Recommended

Short answer, yes. This is a HP PCIe card designed specifically to work with the HP Zx20 (G1 version) series, or HP Zx40 (G2 version) series workstations. However, other PCIe cards also work in the HP Zx20/Zx40 workstations, but avoid the the really cheap ones. A heat sink is generally a good idea, and the Z-Turbo drives are great quality. P.S. I have both a Samsung SM951 (AHCI), and a Sabrent Rocket (NVMe) drive in my Z620, and neither of them are in Z-Turbo drives.

Got it! Thank you!

the HP zTurbo pci-e card (unless modified) will only work in the zx20 and zx40 model workstations

the mod to remove the restriction lock is to remove the "q1" surface mounted transistor located near the bank of jumpers
