HP z620 power supply

Hi,

I was wondering if the HP z620 workstation's power supply is replacable with minor modifications or if it is proprietary. The only reason I need a new PSU is that I would like 2 8-pin connectors instead of 2 6-pins.

doing what you ask is only worthwhile if you actually require more watts for a video card, otherwise 6 to 8 pin adapters is the way to go

because the z420/620 power supply is a non standard pinout a adapter must be used to convert the motherboard 18 pin connector to a standard ATX pinout

This has come up over and over here.  Did you try to use the search feature of this forum?  Google?

1.  Each PCIe supplemental power cable in the HP Z workstations has provided more wattage capacity than the ATX standard.  What is 12V x 18A in terms of wattage?  What is the ATX-standard wattage for a 6-pin PCIe supplemental power cable?  What is it for an ATX 8-pin PCIe supplemental power cable?  Is the wattage from each 18A HP supplemental PCIe power cable more than that for the ATX 8-pin cable standard?

2.  Does it make sense that a single HP PCIe supplemental power cable can provide at least the 8-pin ATX standard of wattage?  However, you would not want to use a cheap generic thin-wire/ cheap connectors/ missing wires 6-pin to 8-pin adapter at the end of your souped up HP PCIe supplemental power cable.

2.  Whose 6-pin to 8-pin adapter would you trust if you wanted to use two such adapters?  There is one engineered and sold by HP?
