z840
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Gents

i'm trying to install Asus HYPER M.2 x16 v2 with 4 pcs NVMe SSDs (Corsair Force MP510 3D TLC nand) and I fail. My BIOS is v1.25 on this machine by the way (legacy boot).

As I know z840 supports a bootable nvme like Z turbo drive (g1 & g2), however after installation Asus card I see only one of total four drives, thus no RAID, nor other ssd.

I tried to test by replacing of standard Z turbo drive ssd with corsair ssd - it does work but with SMART error message. Asus card with Corsair ssd boots also with the same message. Speed is 2x faster by the way than Z-drive

Therefore two questions:

  1. does Z turbo drive G1 supports a nvme TLC ssd except the original? I checked specs G1 and G2 support MLC kind of
  2. how can I disable SMART check ? why I see this error? and what are the possible consequences?

I will also give a try Asus card with original ssd from Z turbo drive today.

First of all, default ssd from z turbo drive works in asus card with no issues.

Second of all, i found topics about bifurcation and realised this will not work 😞

One question though remains, why SMART gives error?

you are getting the SMART error because the device has failed some part of it's onboard device check and may very well fail without any more warnings soon,  it needs to be replaced before it fails completely
