Hi:

HP split into two companies back in 2014.

HP supports PC's, printers, tablets and calculators.

HP Enterprise (HPE) supports servers, switches, routers and tape storage.

You may want to post your question on the HPE community forum -- Proliant servers section...

a Email server does not "require" a raid controller however since most people consider email a vital service it usually is setup on hardware/software configurations to increase it's resistance to hardware failures or software corruption

employing a raid controller (or multiple raid controllers) is one common method used although many email servers are moving from hardware raid to software raid like "ZFS"

some larger companies employ many email servers and those servers will have the ability to absorb the increased email load from downed mail servers

it really comes down to your budget, and your need for a unerupted mail
