Hi guys,
I am following up on a question relating to installing a TB3 card in a HPZ420.
Specifically this thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Is-the-HP-Thunderb...
Firstly thanks to you guys who have responded to other people's queries about this. I know there was a few queries in and around this.
@DGroves, (if you read this 🙂
you commented about the need for that specific cable (HP 751363-001) that connects to the board to the card.
I have located a couple of those cables on eBay but I have no idea which card to get?
But my question is this: Is there a specific card that I should be looking to get that uses this cable?
I use my HPZ420 for video editing using DaVinci Resolve Studio Edition. It's been great for me up until recently, but the latest updates to Resolve incorporate lots of AI assisted tools and they are a lot heavier on system resources.
I know I should probably upgrade my setup in general, but it's my first workstation and I know it and love it, so my potential solution is to install a TB3 capable card and purchase an eGPU to boost my capabilities.
I also read yesterday about a bootable nvme which I might try and do also! I'm just trying to keep my Z420 going for as long as I can 🙂
The reason I am considering the eGPU route is because as my work sometimes involves travel and overnights. I wanted to have the modularity of an eGPU to boost my laptops power should I want/need to edit and render on the road and it seemed
to be a good compromise (to my not very tech savvy head)
Any advice on this very much appreciated, thanks in advance guys!
