I own Hp Z400 Intel xeon w3550, from the very first day i am getting error 517 a low powered heatsink detected on high power cpu. Kindly help me to solve out that issue.

Hi  @Junaid2,

 

This POST error message indicates:

 

Screen message                                                                        Probable cause                                 Recommended action
517—Low power CPU heatsink(s) detected for high power CPUs
Inadequate heatsink is installed.
Replace the low power heatsink with a high power heatsink.

You are getting this because you are running a 130W processor under a Mainstream heatsink/fan rated for 95W max TDP.  Or, your wiring of the correct heatsink/fan (the Performance larger one) is not working correctly and the motherboard is seeing no ground contact at pin 5.  The Performance fan has a ground jumper wire from pin 1 to pin 5.  Rarely those can have bad contact, or break.

You can connect pin 1 to pin 5 by wire.  For my HP Z800 and Xeon W5580 work but if you sterss your CPU temperatures is higher than 70*C.
