Hi everyone,

I want to buy Hp z620.I want to buy V1 version of this workstation ,as I will use only V1 versions processors and this is enough for me and I don't need to use V2 processors. But I need your opinion.

Which one you recommend to buy ?

George_Adam,

What programs are you using and will you need two processors?

BambiBoomZ   thank you for response.

I need this PC for gaming and with powerfull videocard and with v1 version  e5 xeon it gives good performance.

if it's mostly for gaming, a z420 with a v2 motherboard and the 600 watt upgraded power supply would be a much better choice than a z620 as it will support the same or more cpu's than a z620 and be quite a bit cheaper

George_Adam,

For gaming use, the highest possible CPU clock speed is an important advantage.  Consider buying a z620- or z420 if a second CPU is not required-  having a Xeon E5-1650 v2.  The E5-1650 v2 is one of the rare Xeons that may be overclocked using the free Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. The office z420 is using an E5-1650 v2 overclocked to 4.3GHz on all cores.   As far as I know the highest clock speed of an E5 first version is the Xeon E5-1660 6-core @ 3.3 /3.9GHz and that will have two cores @ 3.9, two @ 3.6, and so on down to 3.3GHz.

A v2 system will also be running DDR3-1866 instead of the first version DDR3-1600.

A v2 system is not necessarily more expensive than a first version.

Over time, games seem to  be demanding higher clock speeds and more cores.

Thank you.

And one more question can I use intel xeon e5-4650 v1 processor with v1 version of this workstation ?

HP Recommended

i have only seen exactly "ONE" post about this and it was within 6 weeks or so ago, a poster said a 4xxx spu worked in his workstation which was a bit of a surprise to me and mostly pointless as the 4xxx line of cpu's are made for quad socketed motherboards

George_Adam,

The E5-4650 is a server processor 8C@ 2.7/ 3.3GHz and LGA2011,  but as a quad CPU uses a different chipset.   It may run on the z420 or z620, as the 4650 can be used in from 1 to 4  processor configurations, but the zX20 series are listed as supporting only E5-16XX and E5-26XX CPU's.

Anyway, a 2.7/3.3 GHz CPU will not be a satisfying gaming experience.
