Hp Z820
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I work as an operator and video editor. Recently i have bought an HP z820 (used). Specs: Two E5 2687w v2, Ram 64gb, Quadro K4000.

During first months everything was ok until one day i formatted it. I bought an 256 ssd for operating system and installed windows 10 pro. I also reseated all hdd cables( i cleaned them). Some days later i copied my video footages from my sdcard  adapter to local disk. Now when i play them on vlc player or even during videoediting many video sequences are scrambled:

It ruins all my project.  I did a System extensive test and i got this:

Hi Indrit,

3 quick questions;

1. Are there any missing drivers or errors in Device Manager?

2. Do the files on the SD card playback okay or do you see the same issue?

3. Have you tried re-installing any drivers? i.e. down loading the drivers directly from the HP website.

Hi Brian,

1. No there are no missing drivers or errors in device manager.

2. The files on SD card play okay.

3 I have only downgraded nvidia display drivers from nvidia website.

So do you now have 2 hard drives drives installed? i.e. you added a second brand new 256GB, 2.5" SSD drive, (and you still have a 3.5" HDD installed)?

You might want to have a quick read of this post;  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Hard-Drive-Long-DST-Check-faile...

I would locate a video file that is currently playing incorrectly from the hard drive and try re-copying that specific file from the SD card back to the hard drive, (or to a different internal hard drive if available), and see if you get the same error. If there is no difference, try using a different media player / decoder such as https://mpc-hc.org/ . If the issue appears only on 1 specifc hard drive, then apart from replacing the SATA cable, you may well have a defective hard drive.

What drive and OS did you have when "During first months everything was ok".

I have : 1 Hdd 2tb 3.5"

              1 samsung SSD 1tb   (  for video footages )

              1 Kingston  SSD 500Gb ( for project files )

1 SanDisk    SSD 256 gb   (Operating system)

I located the incorrectly playing video file and recopied back to the hard drive from my Sd card. It plays okay now.

That issue appears on all drives if i copy the sequences from my SD card to any drive above. My workstation uses this cable:

And i have connected this way : (originally they were connected to the SAS ports)

When my computer was ok it had only 1 HDD 3.5" and a 256 gb Sandisk SSD ( OS).

     Windows 10 Pro.

( *after the first computer format when i noticed the video scramble issue i moved the storage connectors from the 8 SAS ports to SCU ports they are now and did the latest bios update, but the problem still existing)

Sorry for the delay getting back but I have been waiting for your images to be approved.

I definitely don't think the issue is with the ports on the motherboard and would be looking to re-connect the drives to the SATA/SAS ports since they are 6Gb/s, (the SCU ports only being 3Gb/s).

Do you have Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology) installed? Have you tried re-installing all the motherboard drivers from the HP website; https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-z820-workstation/5225041

Did I read your last post correctly, i.e. when you copied a single video file to your hard drive the video played okay?

Yes i have installed  Intel RST.  I also installed today Intel Management Engine from HP site.( It seemed that videos after copying to hard drive are okay after this install, however i will try copying new sequences in following days and see ).

Yes when i copied a single video file it played ok.

I also noticed today a squeeze of storage power cables in the back panel of workstation:

Does it affect the way how data is transfered to Hard drive?

Glad to hear your computer is starting to behave itself, and hopefully installing Intel ME has resolved your problem.

I can't see your images yet,  but tightly bunched (good quality) cabling will not degrade the data transfer. Good internal airflow is very important, so you want to keep your internal cabling as compact and as neat as possible.
