Can I use all the integrated video ports and NVIDIA Quadro T400 (4GB) 3mDP on HP Z2 G9 TWR with i7-14700 simultaneously?

@Skyet,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Can I use both the integrated graphics and an NVIDIA Quadro T400 on the HP Z2 G9 Tower?

No -on the HP Z2 G9 Tower Workstation, the integrated graphics (iGPU from the Intel Core i7-14700) is automatically disabled in BIOS when a discrete GPU such as your NVIDIA Quadro T400 is installed. There is no BIOS setting to re-enable both for simultaneous use.

Key Design Limitation:

  • The Z2 G9 BIOS is tailored for professional reliability and prioritizes the discrete GPU.

  • This behavior is by design and consistent with HP's official documentation and support guidance.

Can I add a second GPU to get more display outputs?

Generally, no. Whilst the Z2 G9 TWR technically has more PCIe slots, it is designed and supported for use with only one high-performance GPU in the primary PCIe x16 Gen 4 slot.

According to HP, quote:

“The system is not designed for or tested with dual-GPU configurations. Support is limited to a single, qualified discrete graphics card.”

So adding a second GPU to gain more video outputs is not supported and may lead to power, thermal, or BIOS issues -not to mention potential warranty implications.

Alternative for more displays:

If you need more than 3 monitors (the limit of your Quadro T400), here are better-supported options:

  1. Upgrade to a Quadro/RTX card with 4 DisplayPorts, such as:

    • Quadro P1000 / P2200

    • RTX A2000 / A4000

  2. Use a DisplayPort MST hub to connect multiple displays to a single DP port (if your monitors support MST or DP daisy-chaining).

  3. Consider USB-to-HDMI DisplayLink adapters, if used for non-graphics-intensive displays (e.g., for dashboards, office apps). These don't use the GPU but do work with drivers in Windows.

Summary:

  • Can't use iGPU + Quadro T400 together on Z2 G9.

  • Second GPU not supported.

  • Upgrade to a 4-output GPU or use MST/DisplayLink if you need more monitors.

Kind Regards,
