z620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been unable to locate the following documents for the Z620 workstations. Can someone provide direct links to these so that I can download them, please?

HP Z620 QuickSpecs (Specifications) Document.pdf (or equivalent)

HP z620 workstation Maintenance and Service Guide.pdf (or equivalent)

Of lesser importance right now, I'd appreciate receiving any information on what it might take (if possible) to make this series suitable for Windows 11. I've been told that the TPM needs to be revised or upgraded in order to facilitate a Windows 11 upgrade. (The same question also applies to the Z820 that we already have.)

I'll assume you know the difference between a v1 and a v2 Z620 and Z820... if you don't go search that out and how to tell the difference.  You'd always want the v2, and we have upgraded to v2 motherboards whenever I find a v1 in the enterprise.

I'll post you the first and last QuickSpecs for the Z620 from my stash, and also the most recent technical and service guide for the Z620 shortly.

Paul_Tikkanen is a very experienced and helpful forum member who has posted on the easiest ways to install W11 on HP workstations that are not (currently) ever going to fall under the official Microsoft definition of W11 compliant.  His approach is working very well for many, and I've reviewed the provided links from Paul and have found them excellent.

ZX20 workstations only run processors that will never be compliant... unless MS changes its W11 rules.

ZX20 workstations only have TPM 1.2 chips that are soldered in and will never be compliant... unless MS changes its W11 rules.

Yet Paul has gotten W11 installed and running fine on even earlier HP computers/business class PCs.  This includes all the more recently released updates.  I'd recommend finding his recent recommendations, and following them.  His recommendations include both clean and "in place" installs of W11.  The in place means upgrading a currently running W10 build to W11 without loss of your files and apps.  Thus be sure to do a good backup so you can go back to your original install if you bork something.

MS has not had great penetration of official W11 installs into the W10 base, especially for the recent/reasonably older W10-running computers.  Maybe they will change their tune given the poor W11 success in the current marketplace.

Personally, I'm holding off for now.  Not enough time to experiment.   However, my plan before doing that work is to get a testbed Z620 tuned up with its TPM 1.2 activated in the most recent BIOS, GPT formatting of a 500GB boot/applications Intel 545s SSD (or recent Samsung SSD), maybe UEFI clean install, Secure Boot capable (but not activated), etc.  So, that all will be some time from now.  However, I've used Acronis for backup imaging for years now so may just capture a current image with that and go with what Paul provides for a Legacy install... and keep it simple.

as a quick experiment i created a modified ISO of the latest windows 11 which does not check for minimum CPU/TPM requirements and installed it on a z800/z820 without issues EXCEPT that some drivers that were included with win 10 are no longer included with win 11, the Seagate Warpdrive ssd was one such driver

DGroves... good news, and thank you.  My guess is that MS will integrate the auto-feedback that happens as these W11 installs on HP "non-compliant" workstations proceed.  So, things should go more smoothly as time goes on.  It is good for HP, MS, and us all.  We saw the same happen with early W10 installs...

To the OP... I'll try to attach the things I promised.  I hope I don't hit the HP limit.   See below in the attached PDF section...

Looks like I'll need to try in stages...

The v1 QuickSpecs are too big... but hopefully you have a v2 and the last QuickSpecs are above.  The last technical and service guide is v5, and this is a good link, HERE :

Too big to attach, but you can download it.  This all should help out.
