New videocard in HP z220 not accepted

My son has old HP Z220 and his videocard malfunctioned. We bought a replacement card (Asus Geforce 1650s), but with the new card in it, the systerm won't boot anymore and gives 6 beeps. Seems the card is not accepted. I checked the BIOS mode, which says UEFI. I'm lost and do not know how to get this card working. Or is it just not compatible wit Z220?

if your power supply on the z220 has a GPU video card power connector make sure to use it!!!

you might be exceeding the HP z220 SFF (Small Form Factor) 240 watt power supplies supported wattage for a video card

the minitower z220 uses a  400 watt supply (different size than the SFF model)

the 1650 Super is a 100 watt card and as such should have a aux GPU power plug on the card, the z220's  230/400 watt supply does not have such a connector as i recall

last,  go to the Advanced option in the Bios, go to the ROM options at the bottom and turn the video option rom download to UEFI only  this step is know to work with the nvidia 1050 series cards and may be required for yours

the non super 1650 is a 75 watt card and this should work if the card does not use a AUX GPU power connector on the video card (read card description or ask card maker)

Thanks for responding. The Z220 has a 6pin connector, which I connected to the card. Not sure if power is enough though. Also cannot find ROM options on the BIOS. Might be an old version?

By the way,

There used to be a Radeon HD7850 card in it, but it broke down and that's what we are trying to replace. That card was 130W and used to work.

a amd Radeon 7850 in a z220? not likely as this card draws about 100 watts idle and around 290 watts under load for the overclocked models, and around 75 watts idle and around 190 watts max when gaming

no way that's going to work with the z220 SFF'S 240 watt supply or the desktop/minitowers 400 watt supply

and i'm not pulling these number out of thin air,   multiple sites agree on the numbers i've posted

It's a z220 cmt and the gpu I pulled out is a club3d hd 7800 series, which used to work the last 2 years.

go into the bios, and under the video card section change it to UEFI only instead of legacy

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I got the new card working. I flashed the bios to the latest version and then it worked. Had a really old 2012 bios version that was the problem.
