HP ZBook Studio G5 Mobile Workstation IDS Base Model

I am unable to connect an external display to my HP ZBook Studio G5 via the Thunderbolt port with a USB-C to HDMI adapter. I have a HP 24f monitor which works fine when connecting via the laptops HDMI port. However, I want to use an additional monitor so I need to use the Thunderbolt port as well. For this purpose I bought the adapter. When connecting the adapter to my  laptop and the monitor the devices do not recognize each other in any way. Also when disconnecting the HDMI, and only connecting the adapter I get no signal on the monitor. I've already done some troubleshooting. The cable and monitor both work fine, as I've tested them with a similar laptop. All my video drivers and BIOS are up to date. I'm really at a loss here as I've just bought a new HP monitor (M24f) which I cannot use now.
