went through the same thing, couldn't figure out how to access the vesa plate, the mentioned vid made me feel pretty silly, a snap to get to the plate once you know how it'sdone. fwiw i tried mounting my z1 to a doublesight articulating arm rated for the z1's weight, and it was a disaster, the arm was a piece of junk, didn't stand a chance against the z1, tension screw holes easily stripped when tightening, the pivot plate was too loose, absolute a piece of junk, ended up having to throw the arm out given the retrurn window had expired. decided to re-mount the z1 to it's original stand and, this time around, figured out how to better manage the stand's position mechanism (sat too close to my desk the first tme around, couldn't seem to get it to sit higher with out it wanting to slowly lower due to gravity). anyway, very happy with the stock stand now....
