Hello

I have a z2 tower g5 workstation. On the inside cover panel number 19 is shown as sata storage,  2 and 3.

Long ago I added two large capacity hard to those two stations, two 10 TB hard drives.  Over the last couple of years I almost filled those two 10TB hard drives with data. I have other HP workstations I work on here at work so I didn't use the G5 for a long while. Recently I had to do Premiere Pro work - and I forgot about those two hard drives so I assumed the  2TB and 4 Tb hard drives were what was in this computer.

I opened the case - pulled out those two large capacity hard drives - 10TB . I didn't know what to think. Went into setting (F10) and those drives were not shown. So I pulled out one of the 10TB hocked it up to external station and viola there was almost 10TB data.  The hard drive is fine.

I reset bios to default that did not resolve the undetected 10TB hard drives.

If they 2  10TB hard drives worked all those days months long ago what happened that I am unable to use these drives?

I did replaced the sata cables.

What's to do that I can get the G5 Workstation to accept and recognize on those two sata slot to work?

Thanks

12tb sata hdd not detected?

Hello

To add a note looking at BIOS with this info:

Sata 0 2tb

Sata 1 2tb

Sata 2 4tb

Firmware 7.1. 3

a z2  g5 workstation will see and access a 12 TB storage drive (or larger) that has been formatted as GPT under windows 10/11

if the drive is not seen in the bios then you need to check the power and data cables and confirm the other bios settings are at defaults if you use custom bios settings document them before changing to defaults

if the drive is seen in the bios but not windows check  "disk management" it should see the drive as a NTFS formatted drive with one or more partitions with a drive letter assigned if no drive letter shown report back for possible solutions

Disk Management shows only primary drive -  there is no reference to the 2 10TB Hard drives.

The sata cables and sata power cable to hard drives are new - they are connected so the issue may be at the source from where the sata cables come from thus will need to pull away obstacles in that area to take a look.

Thanks for commenting to the post.

Will follow up later with results.
