HP Z820 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am switching a HPZ820 from v1 Mobo to V2 MOBO but i swear the blue USB connector from my older case doesnt fit the newer v2 Mobo . The 'newer' MOBO has a 'wall' around the pins while the older Mobo doesn't and wont fit the old connector.. Is there a work around or am I crazy?

I'd like to see a picture of your new motherboard's bar code label so we can read the part numbers clearly on both the right side and the left side of that label. Also please provide a picture of what you're meaning about something not fitting. Edit in some arrows and explain what you mean by what you're pointing out.

DGroves is very experienced with the Z820 workstations and the phases of their motherboards so it will be interesting to hear his input. I'm more focused on the Z420 v2 and Z620 v2 workstations.

there are no physical changes between the z820 v1 and v2 motherboards

i suspect that when the usb cable was removed on the old v1 board

it also pulled the plastic shroud  from the usb header

leaving just the  usb pins which are soldered onto the board

i've has this happen several times on several different type connectors

the most recent was a usb card with the type "E" connector

that used a metal shroud instead of plastic around the pins

it detached due to poor soldering on the metal shrouds two mounting points
