HP Thunderbolt Dock 230W G2 w/ Combo Cable
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I use a Macbook pro and HP Zbook with a HP thunderbolt dock G2 230W. I am attempting to connect the dock to the monitor using USB C, but am not able to get it to work. I can use the Dock and a DisplayPort cable, or I can bypass the dock and use USB C straight from either computer to the monitor. But none of 3 USB C ports from the dock will send a signal to the monitor. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

There are two versions of this dock listed in the following document

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05913756#AbT3

One has 3 USB3 ports but none of the USB3 are capable of video

The other one has 3 USB3 ports but only 1 is capable of video out

go here https://support.hp.com/us-en/products

and put in your dock serial number and possibly a better illustration of what ports are video and which are noit

The manual for my dock, User Guide (hp.com), discusses video output for both the thunderbolt (7) and usb C (3) display ports, on page 16 and 17. I can not get video from either port.

Thank you

I do not have that dock and misunderstood the reference to the host as discussed here

Your zbook has thunderbolt according to the zbook spec so the dock's specification is "1.2/1.3 Thunderbolt host spec"

when connecting the zbook to the dock.

port 3, (left USBC) is the " USB-C DisplayPort data and power out port (15 W)"

port 7 (right USBC) is the thunderbolt port

both can connect to external monitors with the correct cable.

If your monitors are 1.2 capable use the 1.2 matrix

if monitors are 1.3 then the 1.3 matrix is used for reference.

"1.2/1.3 Thunderbolt host spec"

You can also daisy chain the two monitors directly from the zbook according to the zbook spec

by using the thunderbolt port on the zbook assuming the monitors have the DP daisy chain connectors.

You are correct, both of those ports should work.  Possibly a signal may be too weak from the DOCK.  Try another monitor or TV set or another cable.
