I upgraded my memory to 32 GB with a 16GB Dim in Slot 1 (channel A) and the same matched module in Slot 3 (channel b).  After a few weeks I got memory errors.  I tried removing the Slot 3 dimm but when I restarted, the system powered cycles for 3-5 seconds then turns off and back on.  It did not show an image on screen or make any beeps.  Replacing the dimm in slot 3 brings the system up, but I need to remove 1 dimm and swap them to find the bad memory.  How I can I go from 2 dimms to 1 and still have machine work?  Do I need to make changes in UEFI, or remove the CMOS battery?  HP Z1 G5

It was 2 bad RAM dimm sticks.  Replacing the DIMMs resolved the problem.
