Greetings,
I am in need of a bit of supplemental assistance with my Z6 workstation. It is still under warranty and I have a work order in (actually a number of work orders). I will try to go over my issue in a line item chronologic order.
1) network adapter on motherboard was not loading drivers. deemed to be a motherboard issue and replacement was ordered
2) Technician came to house, installed new motherboard. Upon booting up there was an immediate front fan error.
He told me to reboot a few times. He then said that sometimes Windows will fix this error.
3) Same technician came back after I informed him the error did not go away. It was at the boot up. Technician came back and had a new fan with him and when he open the box he said that the fan cable was not seated well. Fan error went away.
4) Soon after the fan kept running at highest speed. Noisy. I have had the Z6 for three years and it never ran high.
5) I called HP back and told them what the issue was. I went through a few things with reinstalling Intel management engine and some other things. ( I cannot recall) and the fan seemed to have been fixed.
6) Now I get a new error. "USB Type-C Controller Firmware Update"
USB Type-C Controller Firmware Update failed on below Controller(s):
Premium Front I/O
7) Fan runs on high ALL the time. I need to wear headphones.
😎I have reinstalled an old Windows image. No luck. I reinstalled Windows. No luck.
9) Called HP multiple times and sent in diagnostics. They told me some things to do with clearing the CMOS and reinstalling the BIOS (which was already up to date). It seemed to work. Then failure.
10) Now the fan runs all the time and every reboot gives the Type C error. Sometimes my mouse will not work and I need to turn the machine on and off a couple of times.
11) Tomorrow a technician is coming to the house to replace the motherboard and fan. I have both as they were sent to my house.
I am posting this note to share this experience and also to see if anybody ( HP moderator would be great) can give some thought.
Sal
P.S. The noise is 68 dB. Temp is 26 degrees C on the processor core
