Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

All day long the release of W10 21H2 has been available to us non-insiders.  Major Windows news outlets don't seem to have noticed.  Same old tricks still work...

The update process works great...

This method is for "early adopters" who want to install the 21H2 update before it is offered to them via Windows Update despite the update being officially released by Microsoft (which was announced by MS 11/16,  HERE ).  We have found that if it is available to some via Windows Update it is also available to all others via the method below.  It is smart to back up your build before proceeding.

I've been doing this for years, and have not had an issue using this method over that time:

Use the online MS media creation tool to create a bootable USB drive choosing the option to make it for other computers than the one you are making it on... this keeps the build's options fully open.

Don't boot from it.

I do a full update of my W10 build first, and a cleanup.  Boot into your old build, and plug in your thumb drive you just made.

Navigate into that drive from an admin level account and find the setup.exe... and launch that as administrator.

I tic the option box to help MS... and do the install saving my files and applications.  Shutdown, cold boot, run Windows Update, it usually finds some new things, and this lets you upgrade install it before MS would let you do this via Windows Update.  This has never been a problem to do... but wise to create a backup image of your W10 build before you proceed.  Running 21H2 now that way on a nice test Z400 v2 build...
