hp z840
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, What is the NEWEST most fastest and powerful CPU for the HP z840 ?

I want to use this computer for video editing and gaming.

So I would like a CPU that would rate highest in a CPU benchmark test score.

I Xeon at 3.5ghz or higher.

Thanks.

the two uses you mention are either CPU Mhz (Gaming)  or Core Count (Vid Edit) and you cant have both at the same time so you need to decide which is the most important to you

then look at the HP z840 quickspecs (look for latest release of this doc)

Okay, I am looking for the fastest supported CPU with the most cores.

Alexanderhernan,

NOTE: Verify that the motherboard in the subject z840  can or can not run E5-26XX v4.  In general, v3 will have fewer cores and higher clock speeds than v4. The Turbo clock speed is the key to gaming performance and the number of cores is the key to highly threaded applications performance.

Consider:

______________________Average Passmark:   CPU Mark ___Single Thread Mark

Xeon E5-2696 v3 18C@ 2.3 / 3.8Ghz ________   20,305   ______   1,778

 Xeon E5-2696 v4  22C@ 2.3 / 3.7Ghz ________  21,031  _______ 1,787

Xeon E5-2697 v3  14C@ 2.6 / 3.6Ghz ________   17,797  ______   1,930

Be aware that a Passmark STM under about 2500 will limit games to lower resolution and effect settings. These office systems demonstrate the fewer cores and higher clock speed relationship:

HP z620_2 (2017) (R7) > Xeon E5-1680 v2 (8C@ 4.3GHz) / z420 Liquid Cooling / 64GB (HP/Samsung 8X 8GB DDR3-1866 ECC registered) / Quadro P2000 5GB _ GTX 1070 Ti 8GB / HP Z Turbo Drive M.2 256GB AHCI + Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe 500GB + HGST 7K6000 4TB + HP/HGST Enterprise 6TB / Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 sound interface + 2X Mackie MR824 / 825W PSU / Windows 7 Prof.’l 64-bit (HP OEM) > 2X Dell Ultrasharp U2715H (2560 X 1440)

[ Passmark Rating = 6280 / CPU rating = 17178 / 2D = 819 / 3D= 12629 / Mem = 3002 / Disk = 13751 / Single Thread Mark = 2368 [10.23.18]

HP z420_3: (2015) (R11) Xeon E5-1650 v2 (6C@ 4.3GHz) / z420 Liquid cooling / 64GB (HP/Samsung 8X 8GB DDR3-1866 ECC registered) / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB/ HP/LSI 9212-4i > Samsung 860 EVO 500GB + HGST 4TB / ASUS Essence STX + Logitech z2300 2.1 / 600W PSU > Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (HP OEM ) > Samsung 40" 4K

[Passmark System Rating: = 5644 / CPU = 15293 / 2D = 847 / 3D = 10953 / Mem = 2997 Disk = 4858 /Single Thread Mark = 2384 [6.27.19]

Notice that the 8-core E5-1680 v2 as it's running at 4.3GHz produces a CPU score = 17,178 and STM of 2,368 as compared to the E5-2697 v3  14 -core @with a turbo of 3.6GHz has a CPU= 17,797  but an STM = 2,384. The E5-1680 v2 comparatively is doing about -4% of the work (IPC), but with a +19% single thread performance.

Current CPU's have very high IPC's as well as very efficient cores, for example:

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16C@ 3.4 / 4.9Ghz   CPU= 46,092  STM= 3,4,94.
