I have seen a little jabber about this, but no definitive answers...

Can the ASUS ThunderboltEx 3 card be used with the Z440 / Z640 / Z840  workstation? They are all Intel X99 based, and the motherboard does have a Thunderbolt header.

Is the Thunderbolt header standardized, and will it work to connect to the ASUS Thunderbolt card?

Has anyone actually successfully used the ThunderboltEx card with one of these workstations? Or has anyone tried to connect that card up, including connection to the Thunderbolt header, and been unsuccessful?

the card should work since most TBolt cards are based on a intel reference board design,.....however most motherboard makers do not follow a standard pinout for their TBolt header meaning you need to make a custom cable in most cases to interface the TBolt card to the motherboard and this can be almost impossible to do as many board makers do not post their TBolt pinouts

if you can look at the HP Tbolt 2 card/cable for the HP ststem you should be able to route the MB TBolt header signals to the proper ones on the TBolt card

Thanks.

Do you know for a fact that the ThundebolTh header on the Zx40 motherboard is different than what the ASUS cable expects, or are you pointing out that it might be?

Would the hp Thunderbolt card cable work with the ASUS card?
