How to re-activate my free Windows 10 (from an original HP Windows 7 Pro 64) after a mainboard change?

Enter "Settings/System/About/Change product key or upgrade your edition of Windows/Change product key" and enter your license key. Then check your "Settings/System/About/Change product key or upgrade your edition of Windows/Activation" line.

If it does not work, call Microsoft by phone at number you could find in https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/licensing/existing-customer/activation-centers

If you load an official HP OEM COA W7Pro64 build onto a Z620/Z600 etc. and run the .exe from the most recent W10Pro64 installer USB drive, and choose to save none, you will end up with a W10Pro64 activation.  MS uses the UUID from the original motherboard for detection of the W10 activation record on its servers.  Thus, if if a new/used motherboard is installed you need to start all over from a clean W7Pro OEM COA install , then run the .exe, and this W10 install/activation method will still work.

MS continues to be very generous with this for the workstations sold by its partners......
