Z620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have 3 Z620s and all are Windows 10 Pro 20H2 build 19042.685 and firmware V03.96 - they have slightly different configurations of processors, memory, video cards, hard drives and optical drives.  On "A" and "C" no problem copying files to a blank DVD-R (or other media) and burning in Windows.  But on "B" while I can read an existing DVD burned on the either "A" or "C" I can't copy or even get a burn option with either the old hp DVD-RAM SW810 drive or a brand new ASUS DRW-24B1ST j.  Using HWiNFO64 there isn't any transfer mode or device flags and the general information is only 4 lines long - not the same as "A" or "C" - but the media capabilities looks correct.  I also tried to burn with BurnAware Free but just get "The disc is not writeable" error - but ones that I've tried today are brand new and from the same spindle as the DVD-Rs that I burned on "A" and "C" this morning.  I tried the regedit trick to turn burn off, boot, turn it fully on, boot but that didn't change anything.

Got a fix?  Or what's my next step?

windows 10 only supports burning DVD "ISO" images also there is no DVD player in Windows 10

3rd party applications are required for full DVD support under windows 10

i don't know if this is still valid under newer win 10 builds

how to burn a xxxx.IMG or xxxxx.ISO file

  1. Place CD/DVD in CD/DVD drive. Wait for some seconds. You will see the notification at the bottom right. ...
  2. You will see another notification with some options. Probably you will see it at the top right corner. ...
  3. You will see Burn a Disc Windows shows that in below screenshot. Write any title in the Disc Title field.

That's not my experience.  Copied pdf and jpg files to blank DVD, burned them with explorer option and then can read them on other systems.  And HWiNFO64 being so different points to some other problem - but what is it?

I did every reasonable step - I'm not going to try a system rebuild.  Moved the drive from "B" to "A".  Some exact problem - while old DVD can burn the ASUS won't.  And same short HWinfo64 information display.  Did a return but noticed that it stated that the drive came with a user manual.  This drive when received had no manual and not even in a plastic bag.  I'm guessing it was a return as defective.  The next drive I try on one of my USB-to-SATA adapters to make sure it works before even installing it.
