Z620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey all,

Could someone advice me on this odd issue I'm experiencing with dual cpu config.

Basically, got z620 with two e5 2620 working just fine. If I replace them with 2690 it just won't load at all. All I see is black screen and after a minute I get fans working like mad and nothing happens. I tested both of 2690 as single cpu config and they both work just fine. I wasn't touching anything other than replacing 2620s with 2690s.

2690s are identical with an exception of country of origin (one is Malaysia and another one is Costa Rica).

All cpus are v1s as I got a 2011 boot lock.

the 2690 cpu's are not approved by HP for use in the z620 due to thermal issues, search this forum for details as this question has been asked/answered numerous time

This is so odd because I did check the 2011 bootlock specs and it was listed!

Anyway my issue was with the riser card stopped working. Replaced it and now it's all good. No idea what happened with the original one, I am very careful with pc parts normally

all of the HP quickspecs i looked at did not list the v1 of the 2090 only the v2 2690

it may be that i simply did not find a sufficiently early quickspecs that listed the v1 cpu's

HP sometimes whitelists cpu's so if it's not approved the cpu will not work
