your question should be will the z620 2nd riser board WORK in a z640, not will it fit.........
while the board will most likely fit as i suspect the edge connector and physical size are the same ,
the BOARD WILL NOT WORK as the z620 and z640 use different family xeon processors
i would get the z620 riser board, and then sell it on ebay to help defray the purchase of the z640 riser board

Many thanks for the advice. Please can you explain in more detail as, for example, both machines are shown working with E5-2620 processors. I am aware that the fan plugs are slightly different although still using the same four wire connections. Why do you state they use a different family of processors?

look at the intel specs for a 2620 v2/ v3/ v4 cpu, note that they are all from different generations and have different family names The Z620 supports Intel Xeon E5-2600v1 and E5-2600v2 series processors
Z640 supports Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 and E5-2600 v4 series processors and uses a different chipset than the z620
