Z800 Enable ASF/AMT port

HP Recommended
Z800

Have a Z800 with an AMT/ASF port.

Does anyone know how I enable it?

It's enabled in the BIOS and I have a link light on the port and on the switch and it's been assigned an I.P address via DHCP

however I'm unable to connect to it.

I assume it needs some configuration but I can't find any documentation or options on boot to do so.

the Z800 AMT needs to be enabled in the BIOS, and then the AMT software itself needs to be installed however i don't think the z800 has a win 10 compatable AMT software package

once this is done you should have a com3 device in the listed devices of device manager.

at this point you need to enter the AMT section of the bios and configure the nessary options for your needed configuration

last point, once you set a AMT password in the z800 bios . WRITE IT DOWN!!!! there is no way to recover this AMT password if you forget it

the link below applies to the z200 but much of it also applies to the z800 also

Interesting development.

Although the machine has a physically marked AMT port that appears to be active and the BIOS tells me that AMT is enabled, it appears that there isn't an actual Management Engine interface attached to the AMT port!

Also, the documentation for the Z200 implies that there should be a CTRL+P option available allow one to enter the AMT BIOS configuration - this option is definitely not available.

I installed some linux software called mei-amt-check and it has reported:

[*****@sm03 mei-amt-check-master]$ sudo ./mei-amt-check
Unable to find a Management Engine interface - run sudo modprobe mei_me and retry.
If you receive the same error, this system does not have AMT
[*****@sm03 mei-amt-check-master]$
[*****@sm03 mei-amt-check-master]$
[*****@sm03 mei-amt-check-master]$ sudo modprobe mei_me
[*****@sm03 mei-amt-check-master]$

If however, anyone thinks this is incorrect, I'd be very interested to know how I get it to work as it does seem a bit bizarre to have a physical network interface but no AMT chipset installed.

the help request header states z800, the text body states z200 which system do you need help with?

The z800 "DOES" have builtin intel Mgmt (AMT) i have a z800 and a z820 sitting next to me as i type this

same for the z200

it is possible to have a corupted bios which prevents the AMT from showing

Machine is a Z800 - doesn't appear to be any specific documentation for the Z800 which is why I was looking at the documentation for the Z200 as linked to previously.

Corrupted BIOS?  I successfully flashed the BIOS to 3.61 Rev.A but still don't get a CTRL+P option available.

There's no "Management Operations" section under "Advanced" and definitely no options for the following:

MEBx Setup Prompt (Enable/Disable): or    Enable—Displays the CRL+P prompt during POST.

in your z800 bios, there are two nic listings bothe nic's should be enabled with option rom enabled

is the NIC  that is used for AMT Option ROM enabled? you need this enabled to use AMT

http://h20331.www2.hp.com/hpsub/downloads/remotemanopts_wp.pdf

in the z800 bios, select the Factory defaults option (not the used configurable defaults)

since the z800 can have custom bios settings saved as the default, you need to over ride this and force a factory default

reboot, set time/date and see if AMT is now a option in the bios
