Z820 BIOS update failed using SoftPaq; Won't POST or Crisis Mode BIOS recover

HP Recommended
Z820 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.

I downloaded and used HP SoftPaq to attempt to update the BIOS from V3.90 to V3.94 under WIndows 10 Pro (64 bit). The install eventually froze, with no keyboard or mouse response (frozen mouse pointer). No other applications were running. I waited many minutes before finally cycling power. The Z820 now powers on with a constant blue power switch and very loud fans that eventually got louder after about 2 minutes. The display remains black. No beeps or sounds.

My Z820 has a single CPU (Eight Core E5-2650 2.0GHz), 32 GB RAM, 480 GB SSD, DVDRW, Nvidia Quadro 2000, 1125W Power Supply). Windows 10 Pro 64-bit in stalled on the SSD. The SSD and DVDRW are connected to AHCI/SATA (Item 11 on side cover).

I have performed the CMOS reset - with no change in symptoms: Powers on, constant blue power button, loud fans, even louder fans, blank display. I have also removed the battery overnight, and pressed the CMOS Reset with battery and AC power disconnected - with no effect.

I have tried Crisis Recovery (see 'z420 BIOS v.3.91 update failed under Windows 10' also in this category) using an 8GB USB and a 1GB USB without success. The symptoms change slightly with the Crisis Recovery jumper - Powers up, constant blue power button, loud fans, even louder fans, blank display, AND the HDD green LED flashes occasionally anywhere from 20 seconds to 90 seconds or so. So it appears to recognize the Crisis Recovery jumper but does not read from the USB drive (top slot on front panel; have also tried other USB jacks as well). I have also had a CD loaded, and never see the activity light on the DVDRW flicker as if reading.

Is appears the Z820 is aware the Crisis Recovery jumper is installed, but not reading from my USBs. Are there any other potential recovery media options? Would it be looking to recover from a HDD on any of the AHCI/SATA, or SCU, or SAS/SATA interfaces?

I've tried .bin files for BIOS v3.94 and v3.92 - as they are what's available on the Z820 download site.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Additional comment - I have also tried removing the 'Password Jumper' in combination with the CMOS Reset and Crisis Recovery jumper...

in the future, never ever update the bios from within windows use a bootable usb key (dos method) or enter the z820 bios and update from within the bios  the z820 bios sp has all the nessary files for dos update and you use the dos bios file also from withinn the bios
