Hi,

Is it possible to run the 2TB Samsung 980 NVMe drives as data storage on a Z820 ?

It will obiously only run at PCIe3 speed and I just want to use it as fast data storage if possible?

Thank you

yes, it will simply work, pci-e 4 devices will work at pci-e 3.0 speeds this fact is covered in the pci-e specifications

nvme drives can be used on the 820 as data drives, they only have issues as boot drives although workarounds exist that allow nvme booting via a software based loader

Thank you @DGroves

So the Samsung 980 PCI Express 4.0 x4 will be compatible as data drive even if the Z820 has PCIe 3 slots?
