Looking at purchasing a HP Elite Desk 800 G4 Sff. I am putting together a recording studio for my own personal use in my home. This is currently listed with everything I need and I was considering a furbished one. My wife has me looking into the "END OF LIFE" to make sure it will last a few years with up dates patches and all. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

@KTlee6000,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

A very good question!

The HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF was an upgrade project of mine, and I found it to be a very reliable and versatile PC platform.

There is no publicly documented date from HP that declared a formal "end-of-life" (EOL) or "end-of-support" (EOS) for the HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Small Form Factor (800 G4 SFF).  However, as a rule-of-thumb, when an HP PC has reached 5 years from date of manufacturing, you can consider it EOL. Since the 800 G4 was introduced in Q1 2018, this system has reached EOL status for all intents and purposes.

This doesn't mean that the 800 G4 platform has become obsolete.  Far from it.  Because it is fitted with an Intel Core 8th gen processor, you can (and should) run Windows 11 on it.  This alone makes this platform up to date when it comes to the most recent Microsoft operating system.

The most recent BIOS version was released in January 2022: look under Windows 10 (64-bit) for the latest BIOS version (02.18.00 Rev.A) here: HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Base Model Small Form Factor PC Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support.

The fact that you'll have to locate the 800 G4 BIOS under Windows 10 rather than under Windows 11, is one of many HP peculiarities which we won't have to discuss here.

Anyways, there is no reason to assume that the HP EliteDesk 800 G4 platform won't last you for many years to come. From my perspective, I wouldn't worry about it.

If the cost is manageable for you, I would also look into the HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF system. The most recent BIOS update (an excellent indicator that a PC is still on HP's radar screen) for this PC was August 2025.

Kind Regards,
