Calc error on ancient HP 12c

HP Recommended
HP 12c

ok. This is a mysterious. I've reset my ancient HP 12c from probably 30 years ago which I got as a young research analyst. Doing the following calculation:
PV: 5000

FV: 10000

Int: 5%

Solving for N.

Inputting as follows: (1) 5000 (2) CHS (3) PV, (4) 10000, (5) FV, (6) 5, (7) i, (8) 0, (9), PMT, (10) n. I'm getting: 15. But the right answer is 14.2.

Any ideas?

The 12c will always round 'n' to the next integer, therefore there are no 'partial' payments.

See https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Calculators/Problems-solving-for-N-number-of-periods-on-HP-I2c/td-p/63...

for a discussion about this, and see https://web.archive.org/web/20190322213838/https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bpia5043 for a program provided by HP to calculate fractional n.

Cheers,

Paul
