Calculator seems dead

HP Recommended
HP15c

My old trusted calculator vill not turn on anymore.

The old batteries died but new ones are not solving the problem. Voltage across battery pack is 4.7V when mounted in calculator and everything looks fine.

Any chance of making it alive again?

Hello Tvillingmor,

first cleaning the batterie compartment contacts carefully,

second before you set in the batteries, shortcut the contacts with a metallic thing (a nail, a needle or something similar),

third put in the batteries, and if you have luck, phenix comes alive!

Thank you for a swift reply Calcpeace

I did try but no change. Several attempts.
Then by accident I reversed batteries. This turned on EVERYTHING in display. So now I think my problem has gone from bad to worse.

Sorry for failing your suggestion 😞

Hello Tvillingemor,

did you tried the selftest described in the user handbook for the 15c?

The calc is not active, you push the "on" key and hold it and push the "x" key and hold it, too. Then leave the "on" key first and afterwards the "x" key, too. Now you might  see "running" in the display for 15 seconds approximatly, and then everything is displayed with all the status symbols. When this happened your calc is eletronically save, but then I don't know why your calc don't comes alive.

Maybe it is only a key problem, mechanically especially with the "on" key, maybe the selftest doesn't work either.
