Hi,

I have a serious issue calculating NPV by making use of unequal cash flows.

The calculator throws out different results than the memorandums I am using, and I am following step by step.

I even followed examples on your manual and it stll comes out completely wrong.

Please advise if there is a setting that I need to change. Could it be possible that my calculator is completely faulty?

Hi Make,

Thanks, but it does not seem to help.

If I only calculate the IRR it seems to work out fine but the NPV is wrong time after time.

For the last calculation on the link above my calculator shows an NPV od -17329.30. Also on the display screen there is an x TVM above the answer. Could that be the problem?

Hello,

Maybe if you posted the numbers of the problem, we could tell you what is happening and what is going wrong.

I litereally copied every step in the link above and when I press NPV I get the number mentioned in the previous statement. Does that help?

This means that the calculator has calculated a second answer (to see it use SWAP (shifted K) )

However, I tried the example and got the example's answer, and do not see "x TVM" on the display.

I suggest you try again making sure you start this last part with SHIFT, C ALL.

Please ensure that the cashflows are being entered properly. It is really easy to miss a count or similar. Press RCL CFj on your calculator, and then use the + and - keys to move up or down through your entries. You should see:

0     -12000 for the initial amount, press [ + ]

0     1  , press [ + ]  (and continue on each time to see the entries below

1    0

1    2

2   -3000

2   3

3   0

3   9

4   -7500

4   1

5   0

5   3

6   -2000

6   1

Did all your number match? Great! If not, you can edit the number that isn't correct by getting the incorrect number on the screen, then type the correct one and press INPUT to overwrite the incorrect value.

Now type 12 P/YR  (that is the shift PMT key). Now type 8.8 I/YR.  Now hit orange shift, NPV and see what it says. I see -29.203.14 on my calculator here. SHIFT-SWAP brings up the NPV (which will be different then the example at the last of the page due to increased internal precision).

Do you see something different still?
