IMHO, if you first try changing the batteries cleaning the contacts and nothing happen, you can ...

If the IC (integrated circuit) is not damaged, try carefully disassembling it and replacing the capacitor inside. In the place where the batteries are housed, it has rivets that have to be perforated to open it.
