Solved!

What are the replacement batteries for my 80's era HP12c ?

HP Recommended
HP 12c

The printed info on the back of the case indicates that three #1batteries are required. Seems like batteries are no longer identified this way.

Hi,

As mentioned above, there were many generations for HP 12C therefore the only thing you can do: pull them out to check. 303 has many compatible cells as shown

           https://www.duracell.com/es-us/product/coin-button-303357-battery/

and you can buy from

Regards.

@bob-harvey

There were at least eight hardware revisions of the HP-12C since 1981, do you know which one is yours ? As you mentioned, it uses 3 batteries probably you need three LR44 cells.

Please check, you should be able to see their label as shown above.

Regards.

The last time I changed batteries (over 10 years ago) I ran into the same issue. Turns out I solved then by using 303 batteries. The picture you sent caused me to pop the batteries for a closer look.

I tried entering the serial number to see if that led to anything on my specific version. Came back as Not Recognized.
