hp 48gii Trig function help
08-04-2016 02:45 AM

Hi,
I'm not sure what I have done to my calculator but instead of giving me the answer for a trig question (e.g cos 40 = 0.76604444311) it just comes up with cos(40).
I have it set in Deg, XYZ, DEC, IR= 'X'
Any help returning it to giving me answers would be gretaly appreciated.

Hi,
Your calculator is in Symbolic and Exact mode.
In the MODE menu, select CAS (F3) and put a check next to either or both "_Numeric" and "_Approx"
To see more on these and other CAS modes, see the Appendix C in the User's Guide
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bpia5322.pdf
Also see the Advanced User's Reference Manual.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02836298
Appendix C, flags -3 and -105 describe Symbolic and Approx modes.
( section 1 provides an introduction to RPL programming
section 2 provides programming examples and
section 3 provides details of each command of the 50g)
You may also be interested in the website HPCalc.org which has lots of documentation, programs and support material for the 48gii:

Hi,
Keyboard shortcuts:
If you find yourself in Symbolic and Exact mode, and want a numerical answer without changing the mode:
press Red Right-Shift then ENTER ( -> NUM )
To toggle Approx mode on or off:
press and hold Red Right-Shift then ENTER (pressing them together)
(you will see the = and ~ change at the top of the display, = is Exact and ~ is Approx mode)
(note this toggles only Approx mode, not Numeric mode)
Hope this helps.
