Last year I used the accessibility route from Microsoft web site to upgrade from win7 to win10 for free . MS switched this off Dec 31 2017 . I just got a HP laptop 6470b , with win8 . On my other machine , I downloaded a DVD image with the update/install files for win10 . There is an option to use a 8Gig USB stick also . I updated win8 ( activated ) using the DVD and the first pass , it reverted back to win8 . So I updated a second time , this time I watched it like a hawk for 30min or so , and it worked , there are some options and boxes to tick , maybe that's why it reverted to previous on the first attempt . Win10 pro activated for free October 2018 from a win8 pro activated machine and a DVD downloaded from MS .
