Firstly, let me apologize that this is not in the appropriate catagory: BECAUSE THERE ISN"T A CATAGORY FOR HP CUSTOMER CARE COMPLAINTS! Like many thousands of you, my Compaq Presario F500 suddenly has no video, via LCD or external monitor. In searching the internet for what the problem was, I discovered that HP had extended the warranty for a repair of this problem. I called HP, only to discover that I had missed the repair window by TWO WEEKS! The HP webpage which discussed the repair also suggested a BIOS update that kept the F500's fan on all the time: this means that Compaq/HP designed the laptop BADLY, so that it would not dissipate enough of it's own internal self-generated heat, and that heat in turn would burn out critical internal components. THEY BUILT AND SOLD A LEMON, and by their warranty extention THEY ADMIT THAT THEY DID SO! Now, in this circumstance, a reputable company would have a RECALL of their DEFECTIVE product. But not HP! They have a limited time repair offer! I am fairly certain that the lemon laws of our country do not have language which stipulates, 'the defective product will not be declared to be defective if the consumer has not discovered it's defect within a certain number of days'! So, here is the lesson I take away from this experience: I will NEVER purchase ANY product bearing the names Compaq or Hewlett-Packard, EVER AGAIN!!!
