HP Spectre x360 Convertible Laptop PC 14-ea0000 (1Q878AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

have an HP spector 360 notebook and it has this Sure view functionality. When I turn it off by using a short key on the keyboard it becomes much better but I still absolutely hate it. There must be a very specific angle of view that I must use my notebook so my eyes wouldn't hurt that much. No matter what I do the experience is horrible. I used to have a previous version of HP Spector 360 and it was the best thing ever.

I wish I never bought the new HP Spector.

Hi @mehmatenok

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having a frustrating experience with the HP Spectre x360's Sure View functionality. Sure View is a privacy feature that is designed to reduce the visibility of your screen from side angles, making it harder for others to view your display. However, this feature can sometimes cause discomfort or poor viewing experiences when you're using the laptop at normal angles, especially if the screen appears dim, washed out, or has color distortions, which can strain your eyes.

Here are a few suggestions that might help improve your experience or, if necessary, disable the feature entirely:

1. Turning Off Sure View Completely

Sure View can be toggled off via a shortcut key on the keyboard (typically F2 or F3, depending on your model), but it might not completely disable the feature in some cases.

You can try to disable it fully through the HP Sure View Settings:

  • Open the HP Sure View Settings (search for "HP Sure View" in the Start menu).
  • In the settings, you should be able to turn off the privacy mode permanently, if you haven’t already done so via the keyboard shortcut.

2. Adjust Brightness and Contrast

If Sure View is still active or causing issues even when you try to turn it off, adjusting the brightness and contrast settings on your screen may help alleviate some of the discomfort.

  • Adjust Brightness: Use the brightness keys on your keyboard (usually F1/F2) or go to Settings > System > Display and adjust the brightness slider. Sometimes, reducing the brightness significantly helps, especially if the screen appears too bright or too dim with Sure View enabled.
  • Adjust Contrast: In the Display Settings or through your graphics control panel (Intel, AMD, etc.), you may also find options to adjust the contrast. Decreasing the contrast can reduce the harshness of the display.

3. Update Graphics Drivers

It’s possible that an issue with the graphics driver is causing unusual screen behavior. If Sure View is still affecting the screen even when turned off, updating your Intel or AMD graphics drivers might help.

  • Open Device Manager > Display Adapters > Right-click your graphics driver > Update Driver.
  • Alternatively, go to the HP website or Intel/AMD website to download the latest drivers.

4. Change Display Settings in Windows

  • Color Calibration: If the colors are still off or strained with Sure View on or off, try calibrating your screen:
    1. Type "Calibrate display color" in the Start menu search bar and follow the on-screen instructions.
    2. Adjust the gamma, brightness, and contrast to your comfort.
  • Night Light Mode: To reduce eye strain, you can also enable Night Light in Settings > System > Display, which reduces blue light emitted by your screen.

5. Consider Using External Display

If you're still not comfortable with the HP Spectre x360’s screen, using an external monitor might be a good alternative. You can connect it using HDMI or USB-C to get a better display experience, especially for longer hours of use.

  • Solution: Plug in an external monitor, and make sure the display settings are adjusted correctly (resolution, brightness, and contrast) for better comfort.

6. Check for Updates or BIOS Settings

  • HP Support Assistant: Sometimes, HP releases updates that fix bugs or improve the Sure View feature’s behavior. Open HP Support Assistant and check for any available updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
