Hi,

The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.

500Gb Hard Drive

The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 67 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

Once done, use your Recovery Media to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - a guide on this can be found on the following link.

Regards,

Hi,

The 24 character error code is a Smart failure and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.

If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - see Here for a further explanation - and the version of Windows installed.

Regards,

Thank you for such a fast response, unfortunately the warrenty ran out March 8 2016, as I live in Western Australia it's not possible for me to take it into a HP store, would it be worth me changing the hard drive for a new one?

Hi,

You're welcome.

As the notebook isn't very old, I'd say it's definetely worth replacing the HDD - mechanical drives are pretty inexpensive.

If you need any further advice on this, let me know the model and current os.

Regards,
