I received a call number (800) 678-5786 imitating HP technical support. How do they have my number and knows I bought a HP tablet?

I had this number call saying they were hp technical support saying so had notifications on my computer that were downloading things nonstop. I just told them thank you and that I would call hp technical support myself if there were issues. You could hear the big group of people in the background talking. So strange

I had a guy calling me saying he is HP technical support. I excused myself from conversation, but he kept calling me at least 6 times in an hour. I ignored the calls and finally put the number in call blocking. Beware of such similar calls from these guys.

I wonder why the guy pretending a HP technical support knows I bought a HP computer, and have my phone number. Did HP support leak customer information or was hacked. Should I call HP about that?

Hi:

Please look at the top of this page Beware of fake HP Support where you see the ! mark in the blue circle for instructions for reporting this info to HP.

This has happened to me too several times.  It is a scam, pure and simple.

No one from HP will ever call you out of the blue to discuss issues with your PC, or to tell you your PC has a problem.

I have no idea how these people get our phone numbers but they are not being leaked from HP.

Some of them have even found a way to have their caller ID be the same as the real HP technical support 1-800 number.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.
